In TIME STANDS STILL, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies dissects the relationship between a photojournalist and a foreign correspondent. Photographer Sarah was seriously injured while covering the war in Iraq; her reporter partner James had left weeks earlier when the stress and horrors became too much for him. Once addicted to the adrenaline of documenting the atrocities of war, both are now grounded in the couple’s Brooklyn loft, where James spends his time writing online movie reviews and Sarah, who is is itching to get back behind the camera, recovers from her injuries.
When their best friend Richard brings his new young girlfriend to visit, their fledgling relationship leads James and Sarah to question their own more seasoned affair. Can two people who are used to living dangerously manage to carve out a normal existence? With wit and intelligence, this quietly powerful drama addresses that question while exploring the crises of conscience that can afflict creative people when their work entails moral compromise.
