The Immigrant: A Hamiilton County Album
by Mark Harelik
Directed by Steve Stolee
In co-operation with Kitsap Regional Library (http://www.krl.org/) ONE COMMUNITY-ONE BOOK— On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Island Theatre presents The Immigrant based on the true story of two East European Jews who immigrated to a small Texas town in 1909. Inspired by his Grandmother's photo album, award winning actor/playwright Mark Harelik reconstructs the story of his own grandparents,
two of thousands of Jewish immigrants who landed in the American Southwest through an immigrant resettlement program. Befriended by two stalwart citizens of the small rural town of Hamilton, Texas, the new comers struggle to learn the ways of this new world while keeping in their hearts the heritage of the world they left behind.
