ISLAND THEATRE is proud to present the
NEW AND IMPROVED ISLAND THEATRE AT YOUR HOUSE

We are upgrading the ‘pot-luck play readings,’ originated by Island Theatre a dozen years ago, by adding some improvements we think will greatly enhance the value and enjoyment of the popular series:  The dinnertime before reading has been restored to recover the social aspect of this fellowship of theatre lovers, and will include sharing a full potluck meal (not just drinks, hors d’oeuvres and desserts); AND experienced actors, and sometimes even professionals, will fill a few key roles to add to the entertainment and excitement of the evening. But the fun and creative experience of voice acting for most of the roles will still be open to all guests.

ADMISSION IS BY RESERVATION ONLY.  Space is limited– RSVP soon to our Host
Call Kate Carruthers  – 842-3767  for a Reservation, Directions, and to Request a role for the reading.
Both viewers and actors are most welcome.

To kick off this new direction, we will stage July’s event at a special location, picked for its beauty, and summer charm. For the following months we are soliciting interested hosts with homes nearby that can hold 10 – 20 for a gathering.

July 17, 5:30 pm   (For potluck dinner, drinks, side dishes, desserts, etc.
Play will begin promptly at 6:30)

Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® for Best Play
August: Osage County tells the contemporary story of the Westons, a large extended family that comes together at their rural Oklahoma homestead when their alcoholic patriarch disappears. Forced to confront unspoken truths and astonishing secrets, the family must also contend with Violet, a pill-popping, deeply unsettled grandmother at the center of this storm.   But these facts don’t begin to describe what this play is really about and why it has been such an enormous hit with audiences.

This Reading will feature special guest actors:
Dinah Manoff,  Kimberly King and Ken Grantham

The play has 13 roles.  Reading time is approximately  3 hours excluding breaks.
Potluck dinner at 5:30 with the reading to begin at 6:15 pm.

ADMISSION IS BY RESERVATION ONLY.

Space is limited, so RSVP soon to  host Kate Carruthers  at 842-3767 for a reservation and to request a role for the reading. Both viewers and actors are most welcome.

This is what the critics have said about August: Osage County—
“All happy families are alike, Tolstoy told us, and each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. But I’d bet the farm that no family has ever been as unhappy in as many ways- and to such sensationally entertaining effect- as the Westons of “August: Osage County”.…
A fraught, densely plotted saga of an Oklahoma clan in a state of near-apocalyptic meltdown, “August” is probably the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years. Oh, forget probably: It is, flat-out, no asterisks and without qualifications, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years. Fiercely funny and bitingly sad, this turbo-charged tragicomedy — which spans three acts and more than three blissful hours — doesn’t just jump-start the fall theater season, recently stalled when the stagehands went on strike. “August” throws it instantaneously into high gear.”
— Charles Isherwood  New York Times   12/5/07

"This is one big hit!  “#1 Show of the Year!”
—Time Magazine
"SENSATIONALLY  ENTERTAINING…

"August is a feast for actors and audiences alike."
   —Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times

“THIS PLAY WILL CURL YOUR  TOES
A play that will lift you  out of your seat with laughter one moment and stun you into silence the next.”
—Jay Reiner, The Hollywood Reporter
